Do you know there is more out there for you, but you don’t know how to make it happen?
Are you looking for clarity in WHAT you want to build and WHY you want to build it?
Then you have come to the right place. I applaud you for desiring to go down this path and become a leader and creator. The world needs more creators, leaders and entrepreneurs and I’m excited to support you on your path to success.
Ultimately my goal is to help you understand how to go from where you are today, to where you want to be as an entrepreneur; to help you go from A to B.
And understand the work necessary to make it happen.
The Process of Transformation →
Go for A (where you are) to B (where you want to be)
To build your dream life and purpose drive business, the above diagram is critical. It might sound simple, but it’s super important to understand:
- Where you are today.
- Where you want to be.
- The work that is necessary to help you get to where you want to be.
This document is designed to get you started on that clarity work, both for your business but ALSO your life.
And to find that success, CLARITY work is necessary to bring awareness around:
- what you want
- why you want it
- what you are going to build
- how you are going to build it
- who you are going to serve
- what problems you are going to solve
- what lifestyle you are going to create for yourself
- what type of relationships do you want have in your life
The Truth
I’m just going to be honest with you, building a business is hard and time consuming work, it isn’t for the faint of heart. This is why you need to understand your WHYs first.
Your WHYs and your burning desire to bring your creation into the world are going to allow you to get through the challenging and emotional times of entrepreneurship because you will understand the PURPOSE of what you are bringing into the world.
It’s takes a lot of mental focus and resilience to push yourself through the hard times, the difficult emotions and the challenges you encounter along the way. But the reward on the other side is something that you won’t be able to quantify with money in the long term.
Start With Why
Simon Sinek said it best in his TedX Talk “Start with why -- how great leaders inspire action”
As you build your business though, I want you to reframe your thinking not to be about money first, but the impact you are making along the way. As you understand the purpose and impact you are making on humanity, our Earth, and the world as a whole, you will find that the money part comes easier.
That’s not to say that money isn’t important, it is, it is the fuel of your business, but it’s not the first question you should be asking yourself.
The Infinite Game vs The Finite Game
One more concept that I love Simon Sinek for is called “The Infinite Game vs The Finite Game.” Many people go into business thinking they are there to “win” the business game.
And if you are there to win the game, sometimes you cut corners or aren’t as aware of your impact on the world as you play the finite business game because they THINK to win the game, the outcome of the game is millions of dollars of money in the bank.
But what if we reframed it, what if we are here to play the infinite game of business? The infinite game of business allows us to continue playing for the rest of our lives, make the world a better place, and create value for other humans (and/or animals). The infinite game focuses more on the impact we make through our businesses than the money in the bank account. Which I believe as we focus on the impact, the money follows.
Check out Simon’s video on the Infinite Game here.
Some important questions to keep firing in your mind are:
- What problem I am solving in the world and how is my work and this business making the world a better place?
- How many lives am I impacting through this work and what I am creating?
- What impact can I not see that is being created through this business?
- For example, as you build your products and services, your clients and customers are going to be having their problems solved, which helps them make an impact on the world because you made an impact on them. Your ripple truly creates a wave as you build and grow your business.
- How is what I’m building going to leave a legacy within my communities, my country, and the world as a whole?
- How does my work make this world a better place for all of us to live in?
- What energy am I bringing into my business each and every day?
Purpose First → Money Second
Notice that NONE of the questions above involve money, this is because primarily money is not the driving factor for WHY you are creating your business, it is a result of you doing what you love to do and feel called to do as an entrepreneur.
That being said, it is EXTREMELY important to understand how your business makes money and to focus on your money engine after you have done the clarity work, that’s the subject of another exercise. This is because money is the FUEL (the energy) your business needs to survive and THRIVE. Money is the fuel your business needs to achieve it’s success. Without money, your business has no energy to continue moving forward.
But there are ways to find money, create money, and protect your money that we will be going through as you dive deeper into this work.
For now, I just want to understand more about what you are going to build and why you are going to build it. Here are some additional questions that you can answer as you build the clarity around your purpose driven business.
Community is Essential
There is a saying that says “it takes a village,” and it truly does to create a business. That doesn’t mean you have to have a huge team of your own to grow and scale your business, but you do need a support system and others that are going down the same path with you.
You need people to believe in you, to inspire you, to give you new ideas, and to help you achieve success. Not one large and successful business in this world was built alone, it took a group of people to make it happen.
That’s why it’s crucial to to surround yourself with other entrepreneurs that are going down this journey together. Find a group to join where you can have fun, find support, and grow together.
Clarity Questions:
- What problems do I encounter on a daily basis that I would like to see solved in the world?
- Who encounters these problems and how can I help them solve it?
- What is my unique solution to these problems?
- What would it feel like to have this problem be eradicated from the world? What impact would that make on humanity and the world?
- What have I learned in my life that has helped me overcome challenges that I would like to help others with?
- What kind of world would I be living in if my ideal business was thriving?
- How would I be spending my time?
- Who would be my clients and customers?
- Where would I be living?
- What would I own and WHY would I own it?
- What kind of reality can I build for myself with having this business thriving in the world?
- What challenges will I need to overcome to build and grow this business?
- What do I need to learn to build this business?
- How do I need to grow as a person to build this business?
- Who do I need help from and want to be on my team as I build this business?
