Every day we have a choice. We can choose to be the creator and the leader, or we can choose to be the victim.
We have a choice of how we show for ourselves, for others, and for the world. We also have a choice of whether we will choose to be happy joyful and the creator of our world, or we will choose to be miserable and the victim of our circumstances.
I remember when I first realized this, I remember for a period of time I was in awe of the fact that I didn’t realize this my whole life. But if nobody ever taught me to bring this to my attention, how was I supposed to know?
Back in 2019, I went through a huge evolution in my life. A period when more and more of these personal growth or “spiritual” concepts started to come into my awareness. Looking back, I don’t really think I would call them spiritual tools now, just life tools.
This song from Daybreaker really helped me on this path. In fact I would wake up some mornings specifically in my head.
Spotify Open Your Eyes (feat. Elliott LaRue & Tyler Sjostrom)
It really hit me at one of the Tony Robbins events where he said on stage that
“The quality of your emotions is the quality of your life.”
It honestly hit me like a ton of bricks and it made me realize that I wasn’t prioritizing at the time how I felt each day. I wasn’t taking care of myself, what I was thinking inside of my head, and the actions I was taking because of it.
And as a result, I was pretty frustrated with my life. I was frustrated with my job, my relationship, and where I was living at the time, New York City.
On paper, it looked perfect, but inside I just wasn’t where I wanted to be.
The Most Important Project You Will Ever Work On is YOU
When I finally started to realize this, and take action on it, I became obsessed. You mean I can make decisions that improve the quality of my life and I am in control?! No way.
But quite honestly I was unaware of this until things started to “wake me up.”
I started to have my life stop running on auto-pilot, complaining about my job and started to take action to master my mindset, my emotions, and the actions I was taking as a result of them.
And I wish the world understood this too.
Right Now, It Looks Like We are in Global State of Chaos
Wherever we look, it seems like there are people trying to get us to be angry at this law, this government rule, or how someone is doing something often half way around the world.
We are yelling at the TV, we are yelling at social media, and we are yelling at each other; but is any of that actually working or helping?
But almost never do they turn the narrative back on themselves or how we can do better a community locally.
What we are not looking at though is how we are showing up for ourselves. There really is a global mental health crisis happening, people are stressed at their jobs and feeling a lack of certainty in the state of the world.
I get it, it’s a bit scary times. But if we want to get through it, we have to go inside and see how we are showing up for ourselves first.
Are we waking up every day making healthy choices, working out, doing yoga, and getting ourselves in the right mindset for the day?
Or are we immediately going to our phones or the TV and letting someone else determine what we are thinking about and focusing on throughout the day?
If we learn to be more conscious, we learn to take control.
Once we realize we are in control, everything changes. Now I’m not saying life can be perfect and we should just ignore the rest of the world.
But we should prioritize ourselves first, our own mental and emotional wellbeing. Because if we do that, we can better approach the problems of the world AND offer solutions. We can come at problems from a place of power, strength and resilience rather than a place of lack or blame.
And as we do this, we start to build a new way to live for ourselves. As we build it for ourselves, we start to build a new way of living for those around us too, and ultimately then the fabric of social changes as we know it to be more peaceful and loving.
A new way of living is birthed from within, and it starts with YOU.
